Nathaniel Goulbourne - HACKSTORE VS APPSTORE

Who doesn't like FREE apps? When it comes to the future of computing, applications are beginning to take over all aspects of our interaction with devices. The large variety of apps give us a wide range of choices to fit our personal, financial and educational and fun needs. Apple is know to limit the apps in there Appstore due to its strict regulations. A group of developers in Russia recently launched the “HackStore,” a centralized location for third-party OS X applications.
Like Cydia on iOS, the HackStore is a software hub that allows developers to distribute applications without having to endure Apple’s approval process. The biggest Mac Appstore problem is that they limit their users in everything, without giving an opportunity to expand these limits,” HackStore’s creators wrote on their website. “This is not correct, because ONLY users should decide which applications they should install and which one do not. We think HackStore [will] break through the narrow confines of Mac Appstore."

  1. Oh wow never heard of this, I will definitely need to check it out. I still dont think these will be as good as the ones on cydia. And the only problem with letting anyone develop an app is that there are gonna a lot of useless or buggy apps that can possibly crash your iphone/ipad.

  2. I never heard of this website but you can google a lot things and there are a few sites where you can get software and apps for free, but these are sites that are on apple. I am not sure about this site because Apple has not got its approval, there is a possibility where the site may not work or may mess up your computer. So it can be a good thing or a bad thing so I would not try it unless the app is in the Apple store.

  3. I share the same sentiments of Raymond Brown. Indeed this an interesting development. Over the semester we, almost every week seemed like, that we heard Professor Sistrunk talk about how hard, and tedious creating an App for the iPhone/iPad was. I think my only concern with the "HackStore" would be bugs. I'm one to believe that there's a reason for everything. I think the process for the iPhone/iPad/iPod app store for apps may be one of that to check app's for possible bugs that could harm your iPhones/iPads/iPods, etc.

  4. I like the idea of being able to download any type of apps that you want. I jail broke my iPhone just so that I could expand the abilities of my phone. Ever since then I have been able to use my phone as a mobile hot spot thus allowing me to do away with my monthly internet bill. I think that Hackstore is great and wish I would have heard of it sooner. Apple wants to make the most money possible off of apps so it would only make sense that they would block apps that would impede on that, that is not new though, profitable companies have been doing this to small inventors for years.

  6. I like the idea also of having a Hackstore for an alternative to Apples appstore. I personally have my i device jailbroken so I already make use of downloading free apps. I like the hackstore becuase it allows people to get free apps without them going through the jailbreaking process in whcih many customers do not want to do.

  7. Like everyone else, this website is all too new for me. I have an iphone myself and hacked it before. However, hacking gives you many cool features and many apps. My prior experience with it is that it could harm your phone... in terms of it freezing it up, making you miss calls and so forth. So for the moment Im only comfortable with apple approved apps.

  8. This Hackstore seems like a great way to bypass the limitations set upon the Apple app store. I am very interested in what steps Apple has taken in order to combat this easy way to circumvent the way they want us to utilize their devices.

  9. I think the Hack store is a great way to obtain many apps that you may need and don't want to pay for. Who wouldn't want to get things for free. When i had and android and blackberry many apps I wanted or needed were free. Granted the iphone is capable of so much more the apps for it must be better, so i can see why they charge for apps. However getting them from a third party for free is a lot better option than paying for them through apple

  12. The hackstore is something that I am definitely going to look into because having an iphone and being able to download ANY app without being limited to the allowed apps sounds great!!

  13. This definitely seems cool but because of how convenient it is, it makes you think of the legal issues that this company is placing itself in.
